Its county seat is Charlotte Court House6, and it is named for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III of England. Charlotte is a semi-dry county, meaning restaurants may not serve liquor by the drink but beer and wine can be sold by grocery and convenience stores. The county's high school is Randolph-Henry High School, built in 1939 and named for John Randolph and Patrick Henry, who both lived in the county.
